Love Unconditional

I have never been married and I have never been a mother. And I have never loved to the point of surrender. I have yet to understand and experience how it is to love unconditionally -- to love still yet be not loved in return, to love forever even when death intervenes, and to love no matter what even when plagued with liabilities. I do know enough though that unconditional love does exist as I have been a recipient of it. I never felt worthy of it though. It is a kind of love that is bigger than me and larger than life itself. Obstacles such as pride, ego and dignity often get in my way as I find that I have an overabundance of it.

Love in itself is a big word. It's a mixed bag of emotions too many to be counted and too complicated to be identified. And yet, there is something beyond simple love that exists in this universe. To fathom the concept is nearly attaining nirvana as I can imagine, it ought to take a certain level of intellect and maturity to take it all in.

Or perhaps, it's the complete opposite.

Maybe love -- unconditional love -- is simpler than we all think it to be. To give and not expect any exchange, and to smile in the midst of jabs directed straight at the heart. And to not let anything get in the way of feeling so strongly for someone even if one would have to sacrifice a lifetime. And to give up everything that one possesses without once thinking about it. Blind submission to the point of fatuity.

Simple yet magnanimous.

To love unconditionally is allowing ourselves to be vulnerable to all piths of pain -- and to test the human's tolerance for anguish. The left side of my brain prays hard that I may not have to go through that. However, a big part of me yearns to feel the euphoria in having to love someone that much. To love simply is to theoretically love with no boundaries. We only get acquainted with those boundaries though once we encounter the real pain involved.

And to be able to break through that is love unconditional.

Oh you are not alone reading that line, there are a zillions waiting to be loved - true feeling. You were spot on to say that you might get hurt in the process. But I think everything we do as a child to a grown up adult is to learn from the mistakes we do and supposed experience helps and guides us, strange is'nt it. Whatever it be, I have never ever been loved by a girl so much so that I just let go of my complete masculinity and wait for the casual meetings to turn into one of those anxiety, feel-good meetings. I will eventually be one day and I am told it is a very nice feeling :-)

That does not make you the only one there, I am there craving too. Hava good day then.

Once again, a very thought provoking post. And quite literally your words go straight to the heart, on this one.

(((((HUGS))))) We may not feel we're worthy of unconditional love, but I'd say that most of us are lucky enough to have mom's who believe otherwise. Maybe that knowledge can serve to make us better people, hopefully more deserving of that love.

I've put myself through an "unconditional" love before, and I have to feel like part of it is willing blindness. I'm a romantic, but I feel like in my heart of hearts love should bear at least some conditions - respect and honesty to name a couple.

To me, a strong love isn't flippant or easy to walk away from - but it's built slowly on the proof of really crucial conditions being met just because of how a person is by their nature.

I don't think any of us are worthy of the Hollywood version of unconditional love, its stakes are far too high, but I do I think that giving our hearts to other people who have shown themselves through action to be worthy of it is wonderful.

If you can trust someone not to hurt you then you can love with your whole heart without worry, and that's the feeling of unconditional love with a strength behind it that's of a whole other nature.

Before I forget, I love the new header - it is gorgeous.

Another great post from you. I don't think any of us feel worthy of it. You are not the only one.

hmm...unconditional love can however get in a lotta hurt along...to the point that it can break u and leave u shattered forever...
its great to be at the receiving end ...and more wonderful if its shared alike...
but i still believe the best kinda love is the one wch is kindled equally on both the sides :)

Some of the best loves of my life have been unrequited. To be quite honest, I sort of like being crushed to a million little pieces...makes me realize I'm not entirely a robot.

one time in my life i loved someone unconditionally, expecting nothing in return but i was also dying a silent death. i realised that sometimes its not worth it. i am only human and i expect some love in return.i can't keeploving silently and getting nothing in return. call me selfish but it has to be reciprocated.
our parents love for us is unconditional for sure but that i guess is different. i am yet to experience the love that comes from two people fiercely being in love with each other. i am sick of one sided feelings. but yeah i truly believe that it takes two to tango :).

Yes, its an amazing feeling, going thru the same right now (the only difference is that i love someone who loves me immensly but we can't be together for some reasons), its painful but very very satisfying, its the purest form of love i guess, not everyone is blessed to experience true love in life and when u do you truly reach the stage of nirvana, agree with you on that...

Love that is larger than life?

Can find it only in two places - no one will ever love you as much as your mum or your dog ;)

PS. New header? sweet!

i blogged about this some time back...
its not a conscious effort to love someone like that.. it just sort of happens.. and even though it can hurt like hell when not reciprocated but we wouldn't be the same without it.. it suddenly becomes a part of ur existence..

Interesting definition of unconditional love. I'm not sure that I agree with it 100%. I don't think that unconditional love means utter submission.

Seems to me from all that i have read here is you are loved unconditionally, the question is can you do the same?

Are you able to totally lose your sense of self to enter into that Nirvana?

Its a scary thought indeed.

It seems almost like a drug addiction.

Myself, life seems good without that sort of thing.

There are better causes to die for.

Very very true.Though it does seem exciting to feel that way, its scary as to much hurt it is capable of causing you

Ego kills love, mercilessly.
The unconditional love you have talked about is difficult, it needs patience and diligence that average mortals are not quite gifted with.

A very nice post, it's tough for me analyze things like love, that completely carry me away ..:)

Hi Princess,
I haven't visited for a while so I just read your last 3 posts all together. I hope your grandmother is now OK and back at home. Well done with your new apartment. And about love-well that's a big subject...I have lots more years than you and I am still learning.
But what we teach our children is that the more you give out the more it comes back double...

Methinks that you love unconditionally, -- or perhaps one way that you can do it -- is if you fall in love, regardless of whatever the person you fall in love with thinks. Couples who love each other more often than not love conditionally in that they love simply because they are loved, ie it is a reaction.

The point is that you have to simply fall in love to love someone unconditionally/understand unconditional love. And it is the falling in love that is not exactly in your hands. Like Gibran said, 'You love when Love finds you worthy.' Therefore, we search in vain and wait for years on end in our lives to fall in love because that is a beautiful experience. Like you said, all boundaries are dissolved.

Go ask a friend who has fallen in love! :))))

I believe that once you love someone unconditionally, all you wish for in life is their happiness... it does not matter where they are, with whom they are, how much they even know that you exist... you jus hope and pray that they are happy.. nothing else matters.

Sounds complicated but it is just a feeling that comes straight from the heart. U can't decide to love someone unconditionally... it jus happens!!!

Kudos! beautifully written...

I am loving unconditionally. Do we need to express what is in our hearts when we love unconditionally? Do we need to SHOW it to the other person?

:-)
